Data Definitions
- Contracts have multiple concepts of amount, how much government has spent on an award with a contractor. These concepts include outlayed amount (the amount an agency has paid the vendor as recorded in the agency's financial system) and obligated amount (the amount an agency has promised to pay the vendor as recorded in the agency's financial system). The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) required agencies to provide outlay data at the award summary level for all awards starting in FY 2022. Since award-level outlay data are incomplete prior to FY 2022, and almost entirely absent prior to FY 2020, the figures below show obligated amounts.
- Unlinked awards (awards not yet linked to any federal account) do not appear in this data because the associated financial system data elements are unavailable in downloads.
- Contract Type is the payment model for a contract. Each type has a different way of accounting for costs, fees, and profits. Types include:
- Fixed Price Redetermination
- Fixed Price Level of Effort
- Firm Fixed Price
- Fixed Price with Economic Price Adjustment
- Fixed Price Incentive
- Fixed Price Award Fee
- Cost Plus Award Fee
- Cost No Fee
- Cost Sharing
- Cost Plus
- Fixed Fee
- Cost Plus Incentive Fee
- Time and Materials
- Labor Hours
- Sub Agency: The awarding Sub Agency is the sub agency that issues and administers the award. For example, the Department of the Air Force is a sub agency of the Department of Defense.
